Boo Bash: Then and Now

Before Boo Bash officially expanded in 2011, the Friends of Castroville Regional Park had already spent about three years showing Halloween movies in the park and setting up a popular haunted trail along the Scout Trail. As the crowds kept growing, the FCRP decided to scale things up into a full event—adding a costume contest, games, trunk-or-treat, and food trucks.

The launch also coincided with the completion of the park's Amphitheater, which became an ideal venue for all the activities. That 2011 event brought in roughly 4,500 people, and attendance has consistently run between 2,000 and 3,500 ever since.

"Boo Bash isn’t about FCRP per se, it’s about bringing people to the Park," says FCRP founding member Teri Barrow. "It has become the premier Halloween event in Castroville. We absolutely love the thousands of people who come to it!! The community also loves the safety of it. We’d never change it!!"

So for this year, you are invited to Boo Bash on October 31 from 4 - 7pm at the Castroville Regional Park!

We are looking for:

  • Local businesses and organizations to set up Treat Stations; we need to get to about 30 stations!
  • Volunteers to help run the event
  • Community members to join the fun evening at the Regional Park for this free event
  • Participants for the Costume Contest (see below)

Contact Helen Delavan at 830-931-4176 or lazyh@sbcglobal.net to reserve your Treat Station spot or if you'd like to volunteer for the event!

amplitheater sign in the castroville regional park

Since the Friends of the Castroville Regional Park (FCRP) was started, we’ve had a mission to make the Regional Park more welcoming. This includes hosting movies in the park way back in 2008 and supporting various educational programs and Scout projects throughout the years. Boo Bash was started in 2011 to have a local Halloween event for families and businesses. Thousands of people have enjoyed candy and costumes at Boo Bash with the very successful Trunk or Treat. We also help maintain...

buttefly garden in bloom

By Helen Delavan, founding member of the FCRP The hillside across the street from the pool, which is now the beloved Butterfly Garden, was a very plain slope for years! My idea was to beautify it, and it evolved into the Butterfly Garden. The timing was right since the 2002 City Administrator’s wife was landscape designer, Maura Yates. She volunteered to design the garden. Butterfly Garden in 2014 - By Troy Wagner Griggs Co. did the concrete ADA ramps with funds from the City. The site plan...
