FCRP History Lesson No. 4- Park Hosts

Since the Friends of the Castroville Regional Park (FCRP) was started, we’ve had a mission to make the Regional Park more welcoming. This includes hosting movies in the park way back in 2008 and supporting various educational programs and Scout projects throughout the years. Boo Bash was started in 2011 to have a local Halloween event for families and businesses. Thousands of people have enjoyed candy and costumes at Boo Bash with the very successful Trunk or Treat. We also help maintain interpretive/educational signage and trail markers around the park and support the different memorial trees and benches.

One of our biggest projects was the Friends Amphitheater. Built in 2011 with donations and “tons of volunteers,” this makes the Regional Park really versatile. It’s able to host large concerts like the Fourth of July for thousands of people to enjoy or even smaller events like a star party.

Finally, the latest addition to the Regional Park is the new Community Center. This beautiful facility fulfills FCRP’s long-term vision to provide a spacious, central gathering place for our area. Built through a collaboration with the City of Castroville and funded by a federal grant, it stands ready to host our neighbors for meetings, celebrations, and events for years to come.

We are proud to be your park hosts. We welcome you to enjoy everything the Regional Park has to offer, and invite you to join us in taking care of it.

Barrows Bridge Trail Entrance

By Helen Delavan, founding member of the FCRP The lower Regional Park walking trail and the hiking trails were all constructed by volunteers under the supervision of Trail Team Leader, Tim Barrow.
